Synopsis

Her Spell That Binds Me is a dark, magical romance set in the Regency era. It follows Iona, a novice witch who enrolls at a fancy school for aristocratic witches. Iona’s unusual magical abilities make her stand out—in both good and bad ways—and she quickly becomes rivals with Ariadne, the school’s top student and heir to a powerful witch family. As the two clash while competing for a magical pendant, their rivalry turns into a steamy, sapphic romance. Think mean-girl magic meets enemies to lovers, with a gothic twist.

My Thoughts 💭

🔍 Why I Picked This Up:

I REALLY enjoyed the sound of this book! The mix of sapphic fantasy and Regency-era magic, plus that dark, gothic vibe, was right up my alley. The synopsis hooked me instantly, and I was ready for the “enemies to lovers” romance dynamic. 🌈

✨ What I Loved:

I loved the characters — they were all well thought out and had so much depth. Ariadne, especially, had an amazing redemption arc and an interesting backstory that kept me invested. The world-building was gorgeous, with just enough detail to make the setting vivid without overwhelming me. The forest scenes especially stood out; I found myself wishing I could step right into that world. The romance was surprisingly well done for a bully-to-lovers trope (which i would normally dislike); it felt real and earned, with great pacing and chemistry that kept me hooked. 🔮

✍️ Room for Improvement:

The writing could get a little wordy at times but I was able to overlook that because the story was so captivating. A couple minor parts dragged a bit, like the professor’s lectures and the buildup to the trials near the end, but honestly, I was so absorbed that it didn’t bother me much.

🥇 Overall Takeaway:

If you’re into sapphic witches, dark magical romance, and a good enemies to lovers story that actually works, this book is a must-read. It can totally stand alone, but I’m already excited to follow the series and see what Luna Oblonsky does next. I’ll definitely be checking her Patreon for updates! 🎀

*Previously rated 4.5, but upon reflection, this book deserves 5 stars.
